Purpose of the positions:
Macmillan Education South Africa is seeking to appoint an experienced professional to the above mentioned Publisher positions. The role will be responsible for publishing and managing a wide range of high quality, profitable titles and projects for Social Sciences Grade 4-12, with emphasis on cost effectiveness, high approval results and timeously delivery within the parameters of agreed schedules and budgets, thus contributing to the overall revenue and market share growth of Macmillan South Africa.
Key Responsibilities
Networking and keeping abreast of market developments
Thorough market research which inform development of concept and business proposals
Thorough knowledge and understanding of the South African curriculum and interpretation of Social Sciences curriculum requirements for Grades 4-12 titles
Ability to work within a matrix across different teams
Effective project management within agreed parameters
Monitoring and coordinating the content development publishing process
Publishing administration
Managing costs and parameters for own projects
In-depth business case proposals for Social Science portfolio (print, digital)
Sales and marketing support
Digital content development and support
Requirements:
A tertiary qualification in Social Studies and/or Publishing Studies
At least 3-5 years educational publishing experience
Thorough understanding of the educational environment, including curriculum developments impacting on Social Sciences
Ability to interpret and map subject curricula, policies and related documentation from Grade 4-12
A good understanding of the educational publishing industry
Sound knowledge of copyright, contract process
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Google Suite
Ability to switch between print and digital content development will be an added advantage
Excellent project management and organisational skills
Attention to detail and ability to adjust to changing environments
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
Ability to work independently and within a team
