The SAE Institute, Cape Town Campus, is looking for a Sound Production lecturer to teach and share your passion for the sound industry with eager young students;

helping them grow individually, and ultimately playing a role in their career paths and success in life

The post requires impeccability in every aspect of the qualification’s academic integrity, student support, academic content development, evaluation, moderation, assessment of learning as well as supporting SAE Institute’s vision and mission.

Requirements

Responsibilities :

Facilitation in accordance with the learning outcomes as set for the course, with a focus on practical application, theoretical frameworks, workflow, and technique.

Mentor students, conduct consultations and facilitate learning opportunities.

Research relevant content in order to develop learning material and lesson plans.

Encourage learning style flexibility, meta-learning, co-operative learning, self-regulated learning and 21

Century Skills.

Evaluation, moderation, invigilation, and assessment of learning.

Keep accurate records of evidence (e.g. attendance, assessment results).

Adhere to SAE policies and procedures.

Other duties as assigned by the HOD.

Experience, Education and Competency :

Minimum NQF Level 8 qualification (Honours) in the field of Music / Sound.

Education and Qualifications : The prospective audio post-production lecturer should hold a relevant degree (NQF 8), or certification in audio engineering, sound design, music production, or a related field.

Advanced degrees or professional certifications in audio post-production or related fields are also preferred.

Industry Experience : The lecturer should have extensive experience working in the audio post-production industry, preferably in multiple roles such as audio engineer, sound designer, or music producer.

Experience in the film, television and radio industries is particularly relevant for audio post-production colleges.

Technical Expertise : The lecturer should have a thorough understanding of audio post-production techniques, equipment, and software.

They should be skilled in using industry-standard Pro Tools software.

Teaching Experience : The lecturer should have experience teaching audio post-production courses, either in an academic or professional setting.

They should be able to develop lesson plans, create educational materials, and effectively communicate complex concepts to students.

Communication Skills : The lecturer should have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. They should be able to effectively convey technical information to students and provide clear and constructive feedback on student work.

Creativity and Innovation : The lecturer should have a strong creative vision and the ability to think outside the box. They should be able to inspire students and help them develop their own unique creative voices.

Professionalism : The lecturer should be professional in their demeanour, punctual, and reliable. They should be able to work effectively with other faculty members and administrators, and maintain a positive and supportive learning environment.

Industry Connections : The lecturer should have connections within the audio post-production industry, and be able to bring in guest speakers or organize industry events for students.

Commitment to Learning : The lecturer should be committed to continuous learning and professional development, staying up-to-date with the latest industry trends, techniques, and software.

Passion for Teaching : Finally, the lecturer should have a genuine passion for teaching and mentoring students. They should be dedicated to helping students achieve their goals and succeed in the audio post-production industry.

A Master’s Degree is preferable. A PGCHE is advantageous. Substantial experience in the field of sound production. (Min.

3 years). Facilitation of learning experience (Min. 2 years). Proficient with industry-standard equipment and software including Pro Tools, Ableton and Wavelab.

Proficient with studio mixing consoles and hardware. Classroom management and workshop facilitation skills : A minimum of two years’ recent experience in an academic or training environment preferred.

Possess outstanding communication, interpersonal skills, administration skills, be highly organised and possess good time management skills.

Ability to develop and conduct appropriate practical and theoretical assessments as well as teaching and learning materials pertinent to modules.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Computer literate. Collaborative and willing to work with fellow lecturers and the HOD to support students.

Must have rights to live and work in South Africa.
